Position Announcement

Battered Immigrant Project Attorney

 

Legal Services of North Carolina, a statewide non-profit organization with legal services programs in communities throughout North Carolina, seeks a Staff Attorney for its Domestic Violence Initiative’s Battered Immigrant Project.

 

Responsibilities & Duties: The Battered Immigrant Project Attorney will (l) represent battered immigrants in matters arising under the Battered Immigrant Women’s Protection Act of 2000, the Violence Against Women Act and other laws; (2) develop and conduct trainings for Domestic Violence Initiative attorneys throughout the state; (3) provide mentoring to newly-trained attorneys representing battered immigrants; and (4) serve as a statewide immigration law resource for the domestic violence advocacy community. Because the position serves the entire state, physical office location is flexible, although Winston-Salem area is preferred.

 

Qualifications: Must be admitted to the bar of any state or the District of Columbia. Must be multi- or bi-lingual; Spanish or a South Asian language preferred. Prefer litigation experience related to violence against women or children, poverty law or immigration law; prefer technical assistance and training experience.


Salary:
$32,000 + DOE; excellent benefits package; relaxed office atmosphere.
